An Hydrographic surveyor is an expert professional who strives to make sure marine resources and environments are maintained, explored and utilised in an ethical and sustainable manner. His/ Her duties are to:

• collect scientific data and map the underwater topography of oceanic and inland bodies of water
• use of state-of-the-art hydrographic surveying equipment and innovative techniques
• use of technical software, global positioning systems, and sonar and echo sounders
• use remotely operated and autonomous underwater vehicles to gather data in deep oceans
